Our Story:


We would like to welcome you to the Detroit Fish House – Shelby Township.  We are extremely excited about this concept, the second in our family of restaurants.

Our first-born “child” was Steiny’s Tavern on Shelby Road at 25 Mile Road.  When we first opened Steiny’s in the fall of 2011, it was a tavern in the truest sense of the word.  (The name “Steiny’s” came from my husband’s surname, Steinhurst.  Jeff was called “Steiny” by his childhood friends and they call him that to this day.)  Virtually as soon as we opened the doors of our tavern, our guests were clamoring for more great food, and not just bar snacks!

In 2017 with Steiny’s doing well, we decided that northern Macomb County truly needed a terrific seafood restaurant with an oyster bar that focused on fresh fish & shellfish, fantastic steaks, a carefully selected wine list and extraordinary service.  With all of that in mind, the Detroit Fish House was conceived.

At the Detroit Fish House, we are committed to excellence in all that we do.  Our seafood is all “top of the catch” and impeccably fresh, our steaks are hand cut by our Chef and perfectly prepared, and the wines are hand-selected from all over the world to complement our menu selections.  The most important component though is, of course, our service. It is the mission of the Detroit Fish House to exceed our guests’ escalating expectations for extraordinary food & beverages and extraordinary guest service in a warm & welcoming facility.  This will be accomplished through the relentless pursuit of excellence in all of our menu items, an unwavering commitment to exceptional guest service and our sincerest desire to treat everyone as if they were a guest in our own home.  We truly look forward to serving you and our goal is to ensure that every guest that comes through our doors cannot find enough superlatives to describe their impeccable dining experience and want to come back very, very soon!

Jon Hargraves was first exposed to the hospitality industry very early in his life.  His parents owned and operated their own restaurant, Green Parrot, in Pontiac, Michigan.  It was their love and undying respect for quality and tradition that led Jon to pursue his own path in the culinary arts and he graduated from the internationally acclaimed Culinary Institute of America at the age of 26.

After opening and overseeing the kitchens for Chuck Muer restaurants in Florida, Ohio and Michigan, Jon spent a number of years in some of Texas’ first-class hotels before moving to South Africa to lead the culinary staff at the luxurious Sun City Resort which is a member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World.

Chef Hargraves returned to Michigan and further developed his culinary repertoire under the tutelage of many of metro Detroit’s most gifted chefs, including Matt Prentice and Jim Barnett before landing the position of Chef de Cuisine at Joe Muer’s Seafood in downtown’s Renaissance Center.

Chef Hargraves considers his style to be progressive American with a focus on local and seasonally available ingredients, especially seafood.
